Connecting cultures and oceans
Tramay, the fishing net, a symbol of connections and weaving, links the artists of the band through the riches of the ocean, to the weave of a net and the links between cultures.
It ended up in original creations in which Reunion Island and India are very much present. In spite of not being properly a jazz band, the music of Tramay is very much similar in complexity especially in rhythms because it is very much influenced by the percussionists who created the pieces and their crave for carnatic (South Indian classical) music. Thus, Tramay can get sounds and rythms in the Indian Ocean to share them with the public !
Driven by a thirst for discoveries and exchanges, Tramay wishes to continue its musical and human exploration by traveling around the world, living on site, exchanging with artists and local populations, and learning traditional music. The artists are particularly attached to their independence in order to take the time to do things well, to immerse themselves in cultures and reinterpret them with their own sensitivity. They are devoted to their values and wish to transmit them through their music.
The two leaders of the group, a passionate singer and dancer who also handles small percussions, and a virtuoso percussionist who skillfully mixes world percussions, are both experienced educators in dance and various body practices, percussions and moring.
Their commitment goes beyond music. The lyrics of the singer and percussionist, both committed authors, written in Creole, evoke with sensitivity and depth the history and daily life of the island, in connection with the social problems that result from it: urbanization, slavery...
« What can we expect from Tramay? Another maloya band? Perhaps, but one "with a distinctly Indian influence", setting them apart. They are a group that invites you on a gentle, immersive journey, carried by a fusion of Creole Indian groove, African and Brazilian swing, and a wealth of rhythms fused with the sound of passion, the dance of conviviality, and shared enchantment. »
David began to learn music by himself and was performing from the early age of 11 with maloya music bands. He is a cultural activist and participates in the rehabilitation of the local martial art moring. He has finished studying percussions at the Regional Conservatory and teaches and tours all over the world as a professional musician notably with Christine Salem.
Florence was born from a Reunionese mother and has worked in many fields and contexts. She was trained as a linguist and cultural manager at the University, and dance teacher at the Free Dance Song School and by herself. She founded her own dance company Maloya Métiss and her own language of expression that she qualifies as “kinesthesic ‘art”.
Anas is a highly regarded musician from Réunion Island, celebrated for his talent and stage presence. He performs with the renowned Réunion-based groups Dogo Fara and Madiakanou, and has honed his skills through both self-taught exploration and formal training at the Conservatoire de Région, specializing in local and African percussion.
